Strange cold start on my 2015 Elantra

My 2015 Elantra cranked with no compression one morning, the belts turned, starter worked, but there was no engine gallop. After a few minutes, the compression slowly returned, it started then stalled and this happened thrice. An hour later, it started fine, I didnt see any codes or damage. I suspect VVT or the solenoid, anyway it's been fine since, but it's baffling, has anyone seen anything like this?

Ok... that's strange about the no codes showing issue. I would still keep an eye on the VVT system since intermittent issues can be tricky to catch early.

You're probably right suspecting the VVT system, though I find it strange that it eventually started and has been fine since.
If the solenoid got stuck open for a bit, it could definitely mess with the valve timing and give you that no-compression crank.
Since there are no codes, it's a tough one to diagnose.
I'd consider running some good quality synthetic oil and maybe a cleaner like Seafoam to see if it helps, just in case there's some sludge causing it to stick.
